Full Internal Hamptons-Style Renovation
Working with the Harding family, Mamet Homes applied a spectacular Hamptons-style makeover to their Old Queenslander.
Nestled in the suburb of Kalinga, the Harding family home screamed “location, location”. But the internal layout wasn’t conducive to their lifestyle, and the home needed modernising. So, they reached out to several local builders, including Mamet Homes.
This is the story of their renovation project.
The Goal
When the Harding family first approached Mamet Homes, they explained they wanted to “invert” their Old Queenslander, moving the living areas downstairs, and moving the bedrooms upstairs. They also wanted a Hamptons-style interior and a kitchen and dining room that could be seamlessly blended with the outdoor entertainment area.
The Harding family chose to work with Mamet Homes because they felt confident in the precision of our all-inclusive, fixed-price contract, and appreciated the fact that we honoured their budget in our pricing.
Challenges & Solutions
Stripping back this 1920s Queenslander, one big challenge we immediately faced was the fact that the rafters were sagging and had not been built to adequately support the roof. After careful investigation, we prepared and presented a solution to the engineer, who signed-off on our proposal within an hour. This initiative meant we were able to proceed much more quickly with the project than had we waited for the engineer to do all the work.
Another challenge we faced was the lack of space for ducted air conditioning. We solved this one by fashioning a coffered ceiling with bulkheads, and concealing the ducted aircon inside the new ceiling.
The Outcome
Entering the home now, you’d never realise that the grand, double-height entrance enclave complete with beaded chandelier feature was once a humble sunroom. The Hamptons-style kitchen includes a butler’s pantry and beautiful marble benchtops, with stackable doors that can be opened for a seamless indoor-outdoor entertaining experience. Upstairs, the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The extensive timber joinery throughout the home was custom-built, not only to suit the home, but also to suit the family’s budget.
When you look at the photos of this gorgeous Hamptons-style renovation, we’re sure you’ll agree that the end result speaks for itself. This iconic Queenslander has blossomed into a light-filled, on-trend home that will suit the Harding family as they grow over the years.
